ECAT provides mobility and travel training for interested individuals and groups. This includes a bus feature demonstration, a one-on-one trip, and instruction on how to read ECAT bus routes and schedules for inexperienced riders.
Travel Training is offered at no charge to the participant.
Travel Training sessions are provided by professionals who have experience working with children, those with disabilities, and the elderly. The Travel Trainers are knowledgeable about transportation accessibility and will help the participant become more accustomed to using public transit on their own.
To practice riding the bus, the participant will ride a route to a point of interest with the trainer. On the way, the trainer will teach the participant how to safely board and exit the vehicle, how to signal the driver for a stop, bus etiquette, etc. Once the trip is completed, if the participant still does not feel comfortable riding on their own, just schedule another session and the trainer will be happy to practice again.
Travel Training for Groups
This type of training provides group presentations at agencies that serve children, the disabled, and the elderly throughout Escambia County. The goal is to give participants and agency staff an introduction to the accessibility of ECAT service, and to demonstrate the benefits of using public transportation.
During the presentations, a Travel Trainer will explain how to use accessibility features and transit vehicles, how to plan trips, and how to travel safely in the community while using ECAT.
