ECAT buses will not operate Friday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Jan. 1. Buses will operate on a modified holiday schedule until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24, Thursday, Dec. 31, Saturday, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 2. There will be no UWF Trolley or Express Shuttle service from Saturday, Dec. 12 to Monday, Jan. 18. UWF service will resume Tuesday, Jan. 19. Beginning Monday, Oct. 19, ECAT will begin the Route 61- Bridge Detour, which modifies the original Route 61 to Pensacola Beach. The Route 61- Bridge Detour will consolidate temporary Route 20 that was created to help transport passengers between Escambia County and the City of Gulf Breeze.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 5, ECAT will launch bus Route 20 to help transport passengers between Escambia County and the City of Gulf Breeze. The Pensacola Bay Bridge on U.S. 98 was damaged during Hurricane Sally and will be closed while FDOT conducts inspections and makes repairs. ECAT bus fares remain suspended.

An ECAT employee has tested positive for COVID-19. ECAT management was notified by the employee on Tuesday, June 16 at 3:30 p.m. This driver drove on Saturday, June 13 for the first time since April 8. Steps are being taken to notify employees. Our priority remains the safety and health of our employees and passengers. The break room was fogged. Door handles are wiped down daily and there continues to be plenty of PPE and cleaning supplies. Buses are disinfected every night and ECAT operators are required to wear masks while driving buses.

ECAT provides a vital service to our community by providing a transportation option for residents to go to work, the grocery store and the pharmacy. By suspending fares, it is another way to support our population during this challenging economic time and the timing of this decision was strategic and specific to our local area. For comparison, the Metropolitan Transit Authority in New York City or Star Metro in Tallahassee, are cashless, meaning they are still collecting fares. We have been communicating with the Florida Public Transportation Association and the Florida Department of Transportation in addition to the local union.

Due to ongoing construction on Olive Road, eastbound bus stops between Yancey Lane and Hendrix Avenue will be inaccessible for the next six months. The last serviceable bus stop will be at Meadowrun Apartments. The bus stops at Tippin Avenue, Boyd Avenue and Hendrix Avenue will not be accessible.
